Acht Spieler gaben nur einen halben Zähler ab und liegen gemeinsam an der Spitze. Es führt dank bester Zweitwertung mit Anton Demchenko ein russischer Großmeister, der in der 3. Runde mit Vladimir Fedoseev einen der Favoriten sehenswert besiegte.

Auf Platz zwei liegt Alexandr Predke. Ihm gelang in der 4. Runde ein schöner Sieg gegen Eduardo Itturizaga aus Venezuela. Der junge Russe opferte im Mittelspiel eine Figur und erhielt dafür zwei wunderbare Freibauern im Zentrum, die er nach beiderseitigen Fehlern letztendlich zum Sieg führte.
