08.03.2015 – Evgeniy Najer ist Europameister. In der letzten Runde der EM in Jerusalem remisierte der 37-jährige Großmeister aus Russland gegen Denis Khismatullin und holte mit 8,5 Punkten Gold. Silber geht an David Navara mit 8,0 Punkten, der dank besserer Wertung Mateusz Bartel auf den Bronzeplatz verwies. Vor der letzten Runde kämpften bei der Europameisterschaft Najer, Navara und Khismatullin um Gold. Die Vorzeichen waren klar. Najer würde bei einem halben Punkt Vorsprung ein Remis für Gold reichen, wenn Navara gegen Ivan Cheparinov nicht gewinnen würde. Dementsprechend galt es für alle Beteiligten, auch den Überblick am Nachbarbrett zu behalten.

Der Spielsaal

Evgeniy Najer übernahm mit Schwarz gegen Denis Khismatullin in einer Slawischen Partie aus der Eröffnung heraus die Initiative. Im Bestreben die Stellung zu verkomplizieren, bot Khismatullin ein Qualitätsopfer an, das Najer dank seiner guten Stellung ausschlug. Nach dem Zentrumsvorstoß im 26. Zug wurde der schwarze Vorteil deutlich und Khismatullin bot schnell remis an, um sich wenigstens den halben Punkt zu sichern. Najer nahm an und krönte sich zum Europameister, da am Nachbarbrett klar war, dass Navara höchstens ein Remis erreichen würde.

David Navara und Ivan Cheparinov lieferten sich an Tisch 2 ein heißes Duell. Der 28-jährige Bulgare, der mit einem Sieg eine Medaille gewonnen hätte, opferte nach der Eröffnung eine Figur für zwei Bauern und zwang den weißen König im Zentrum zu bleiben. Navara forcierte ein Endspiel, das allerdings nur Cheparinov Chacen auf einen Sieg bot. Der Tscheche verteidigte sich aber bravourös und erzwang letztendlich das Remis.

Bronze geht nach Polen und an Mateusz Bartel. Der 30-jährige Großmeister bezwang nach einer tollen Angriffsleistung Ian Nepomniachtchi und verwies Denis Khismatullin dank der besseren Wertung auf Platz vier. Nepomniachtchi, der nach der 8. Runde die Tabelle noch anführte, fiel am Ende sogar aus den Qualifikationsplätzen für den Weltcup.

Georgios Souleidis ist Internationaler Schachmeister und hat in Bochum Publizistik und Kommunikationswissenschaft studiert. Er arbeitet als Journalist, Autor und Schachtrainer. Er schreibt u.a. als Chefredakteur für die Schachbundesliga, für Chessbase, die Zeitschrift SCHACH, SPIEGEL ONLINE oder die Deutsche Presse-Agentur. Falls er mal nicht schreibt, Training gibt oder auf seinem YouTube-Kanal Schach lehrt, versucht er aktiv am Brett zu beweisen, dass 1. e2-e4 der beste Eröffnungszug ist.
