Hikaru Nakamura, sicher der Favorit auf den Turniersieg beim 2. Millionaire Chess Open in Las Vegas, kam nur gerade eben so in die K.o.-Runde. Nach der Vorrunde, einem Open mit sieben Runden nach Schweizer System, hatten sich Yu Yangyi, Aleksandr Lenderman und Le Quang Liem mit je 6 Punkten qualifiziert. Evgeny Bareev stand in der Schlussrunde auf Gewinn, verdarb aber seine Partie und verpasste die direkte Qualifikation. Zehn Spieler kamen auf 5,5 Punkte und mussten einen umfangreichen Stichkampf spielen, der bis 3 Uhr nachts dauerte und aus dem Hikaru Nakamura schließlich als Sieger hervor ging.
Gestern wurde nun die Finalrunde gespielt. Hier besiegte Nakamura Yu Yanguyi in der Verlängerungsrunde, nachdem die ersten beiden Partien remis geendet hatten. Im zweiten Halbfinale setzte sich Le Quang Liem gegen Aleksandr Lenderman glatt mit 2:0 durch.

Das Finale und damit auch den ersten Preis in Höhe von 100.000 USD gewann Nakamura gegen Le mit 1,5:0,5. Entscheidend war die zweite Partie. Yu Yangyi beiegte Lenderman im Spiel um Platz drei.
