Mannschaftsweltmeisterschaft in Zakhkadzor: Kuba führt
Auch die vierte Runde der Mannschaftsweltmeisterschaft brachte überraschende Ergebnisse. So kam Russland trotz deutlicher Elo-Überlegenheit an allen vier Brettern gegen die USA über ein 2:2 Unentschieden nicht hinaus. Doch noch überraschender war der deutliche 3,5:0,5 Sieg der Chinesen gegen Gastgeber Armenien. Lediglich Levon Aronian kam am Spitzenbrett gegen Ding Liren zu einem Remis, an den drei restlichen Brettern mussten die Armenier eine Niederlage quittieren.
Das armenische Team
Zu einer kuriosen Situation kam es dabei in der Partie zwischen Chinas Jungstar Wei Yi und Hrant Melkumyan: Nach 19 Zügen stand im Mittelspiel eine absolut symmetrische Stellung auf dem Brett.
