03.11.2013 – Anatoly Karpov machte beim nach ihm benannten Karpov-Cup eine gute Figur. Der 12. Weltmeister gewann die Vorrunde und kam in der Finalrunde bis ins Finale. Hier gestaltete er beide Schnellschachpartien gegen Etienne Bacrot remis, unterlag dann aber im Blitzstichkampf. Das Open gewann Libiszewski dank bester Zweitwertung. Partien, Tabelle, Videos...

Bacrot gewinn Karpov-Cup

Zu Ehren des 12. Weltmeisters wurde in Cap d'Agde der "Anatoly Karpov Cup" mit acht Spielern - vier Männer, vier Frauen -  doppelrundig durchgeführt. Die vier besten Spieler bestritten im Anschluss eine Finalrunde im K.O.-Modus. Für diese qualifizierten sich Karpow selbst, der die Vorrunde souverän gewann, Bacrot und nach einem Stichkampf Ivanchuk und Mariya Muzychuk.

Im Halbfinale setzte sich Karpov gegen Muzychuk durch, Bacrot gewann gegen Ivanchuk.

Das Finale zwischen Karpov und Bacrot wurde erst im Stichkampf über zwei Blitzpartien entscheiden. Hier gewann Bacrot mit 2:0. Die beiden Schnellschachpartien zuvor waren beide mit remis beendet worden.

Der Stichkampf wurde als kleines doppelrundiges Turnier mit Blitzpartien 3+2 gespielt. Zwei Spieler kamen weiter, einer musste ausscheiden. Die "Reise nach Jerusalem" verlor dann Yannick Pelletier, womit sich also Mariya Muzychuk als einzige der vier Frauen dann doch noch für die Endrunde qualifizieren konnte. Im Halbfinale trifft sie auf Karpov.
