Der ehrgeizige Aljechin erlitt einen empfindlichen Rückschlag
Réti liegt nach diesem Sieg nunmehr alleine auf dem zweiten Platz. Doktor Emanuel Lasker kann dies gleichgültig sein: Wer Zweiter ist - hinter ihm! Damit das so bleibt, darf der frühere Weltmeister aber nicht nachlassen, was ihm in seiner Partie gegen Efim Bogoljubow auch eindrucksvoll gelungen. Es war ab einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt klar, dass nur der mit den weißen Steinen spielende Lasker würde angreifen können, und ebenso klar war, wo dies zu geschehen hätte: am Damenflügel nämlich. Bogoljubow hätte sich durchaus noch verteidigen können, doch er scheiterte schnell an dieser Aufgabe, was Laskers Sieg spielerisch leicht wirken ließ:
