Nachdem bereits die Divisionen D bis B ihre Wettkämpfe bestritten hatten, startete am Mittwoch auch die Top-Division der Online-Schacholympiade in die Wettkämpfe. 40 Teams, davon 25 Mannschaften gesetzt und 15 Aufsteiger aus der Division B, spielen in vier Gruppen mit je zehn Teams. Die ersten zwei Mannschaften jeder Gruppe erreichen die K.o.-Phase.
Deutschland spielt in der Gruppe C und hat dort mit Russland und der Ukraine zwei sehr starke Mitbewerber um einen der beiden Qualifikationsplätze. Auch Spanien und Israel wollen im Kampf um die Qualifikationsplätze sicher ein Wörtchen mitreden.
Erster Gegner der Deutschen Mannschaft am Mittwoch Nachmittag (ab 16 Uhr) war Spanien. Das deutsche Team konnte sein Auftaktmatch mit 4:2 für sich entscheiden.
Die Ukraine, Mitfavorit auf einen der beiden Qualifikationsplätze für das Viertelfinale, verlor gegen Russland mit 1,5:4,5.
In der zweiten Runde war Russland dann der Gegner der deutschen Mannschaft. Der Co-Sieger der Online-Schacholympiade im letzten Jahr erwies sich dann als eine Nummer zu groß für das deutsche Team. Das 0:6 fiel aber doch etwas zu hoch aus.
Das russische Team spielt im Zentralschachklub in Moskau
Im dritten Match des Tages musste das deutsche Team dann auch noch eine 1,5:4,5-Niederlage gegen die Ukraine hinnehmen.
Im Moment sieht es also im Hinblick auf das Erreichen des Viertelfinales nicht so gut aus. Sollte die Ukraine aber, die auch gegen Russland verloren hat, noch einen Mannschaftspunkt abgeben und das deutsche Team die übrigen Wettkämpfe gewinnen, könnte es doch noch klappen.
In der Gruppe A führen China und Kasachstan mit je drei Siegen.
Team China
In der Gruppe B führt Ungarn. Topfavorit Indien hat gegen Frankreich einen Punkt abgegeben und liegt auf Platz 2.
Team India
In der Gruppe D haben die USA und Peru alle ihre Kämpfe des ersten Tages gewonnen.
