Sie hat begonnen – und wie! Zugegeben, insgeheim hatten die veranstaltenden
Chess Tigers schon gehofft, dass wieder sehr viele Schachbegeisterte trotz eines
reduzierten Angebots an Events nach Mainz kommen und an der Offenen
Schnellschach-WM teilnehmen würden. Dass es letztlich sogar haarscharf über 700
werden würden, darüber freut sich das komplette Team sehr und sieht dies als
erneute Bestätigung ihrer Bemühungen, auch weiterhin die größte und stärkste
Schnellschach-Veranstaltung der Welt zu sein.

Levon Aronian
Mit einem Schnitt von 2727 bei den ersten zehn Spielern der Setzliste wurde ein
neuerlicher Rekord erzielt. Wie in jedem Jahr war es ein ganz besonderes Gefühl,
als sich die Türen der Rheingoldhalle öffneten und hunderte Schachspieler
hineinströmten und ihrerseits ob der gigantischen Kulisse staunten. Viele ließen
sich vor der Bühne, auf welcher die beiden Top-Bretter spielen, fotografieren,
um eine persönliche Erinnerung mitnehmen zu können.

Nach den ersten fünf Runden gibt es noch ein Dutzend Hundertprozentige, wobei
der Pole Robert Kempinski aktuell die beste Wertung vorzuweisen hat. Sollte es
nach elf Runden tatsächlich zwei oder sogar mehr Spieler mit identischer
Punktzahl und Zweitwertung
geben, wird es zum Tie-Break kommen. Aber nur dann!
So gut wie keine Chancen mehr auf den WM-Titel hat dagegen die deutsche Nummer 1
Arkadij Naiditsch, denn er verlor bereits zwei Partien. Der morgige Spieltag
beginnt um 11.00
